Be careful when choosing your fancy dress outfit: Tory MP offends
A Tory MP has had his life turned upside down since he was photographed amongst a stag party in France wearing Nazi uniforms. Even though Aidan Burley was not wearing fancy dress on the stag do, he still took part in the celebrations. This has led to Mr Burley being sacked from his government post and splitting from his fiancée. Under French law, it is illegal to wear Nazi uniform in public, so now Mr Burley and his friends may be prosecuted because of this.
So it’s always worth thinking about the fancy dress outfit!
Here’s 3 other fancy dress mishaps!
In 2005, Prince Harry was also photographed wearing a swastika armband during a night out with friends. The Prince received a lot of criticism for this across the media.
In 2009, a football team from Bristol were arrested during their end of season tour to Crete for dressing up as nuns.
And in 2008 and 2009, two men were arrested for wearing a Rambo and Godfather fancy dressed outfit. The arrests were made because they were believed to be carrying weapons, but this turned out to be a plastic knife and a toy gun.
The moral of this story, be careful what you dress up as but make it in the spirit of ‘good fun!’, and respect rules and regulations of different countries and their ways of life.
