‘Wanna be my starter wife?’ – Funny Craigslist ad
Craigslist is a classified advertisements website with sections devoted to jobs, housing, gigs … and wife seeking apparently. Recent posters on the site are getting more bizarre, with one gentleman recently requesting a dry run at marriage for a week. Posting ‘Wanna Be My Starter Wife?’ the man explained ‘I just realised something, I’m about to miss the chance to have a ‘Starter Marriage’ with my ‘Starter Wife’.
A starter marriage is one that lasts for five years or less, and ends before children begin (I’m thinking one year to three years will be enough.) Being that, I would like to eventually get married (for real) and have children. I really need to get the ball rolling on this. So maybe we haven’t exactly met yet but that’s no reason we shouldn’t get married’.
Despite the apparent madness of the request, a similar poster is also on the site, written by a wannabe bride; ‘Are you looking for the convenience of having a WIFE without the commitment? Are you considering marriage but wish you could test it out first? Do you wish to be an experienced husband before actually finding the right woman? Then I’m the wife for you!”
Another reassuring post wrote:
” … I decided tomorrow I want to get married, so any takers? I’m attractive, not a psycho… well not completely
Have a job, car, my own place, I’m very independent … I love sex and my husband will have to be able to keep up with me … I’ve never wanted to get married, ever. But life is pretty boring right now and I feel like if I get married at least it’s something exciting.’ Surprisingly (or not) the advert has been up on the site for a while; apparently no one yet fits the description. If you’re interested in commitment for around four weeks then another post is for you; ‘I’m a 29-year-old female who is looking to try married life for a month. Around ten years ago I swore to myself that I would never get married (reasons being parents, books, ‘Sex in the City’). As my thirtieth birthday approaches I have begun having doubts in this decision. Perhaps I would like being married, having children, taking care of a husband. I want to find out if the choice I made is right in a practical and tangible way, and what better way than trying marriage out for a month? So I am hoping to trade places with another woman who is interested in the life of a single girl, and would not mind me trying out her life for 30 days …”
Brides-to-be have also been known to post on the site, with a recent bride posting ‘He has eight groomsmen and I only have one bridesmaid. You can be single or taken, it doesn’t matter … you just have to be hot. But not hotter than me.’
