Grooms-to-be: money is the way to lose the pounds
Though we rarely admit we might care a little about how we look, when it comes to standing at the end of the aisle we don’t want her to take one look at our too-tight tuxedo and hamster cheeks and make a runner. Therefore we’ve done a bit of research and found this Telegraph article that makes a bit of sense – apparently the best way to motivate men to shed the pounds is the chance to compete for cold hard cash.
It all started in the United States – companies were signing up for schemes which pay out hundreds of thousands if they hit ambitious weight loss targets – and if you can’t lose a certain target then you end up out of pocket.
Since then companies over here are starting to do it, with the scheme costing up to £90 and with monthly membership fees of up to £20. Dieters are then paid for every pound they lose, with bonuses thrown in for super pound shedding. The UK version is called Weight Win, and early findings showed that the 40% of members who’re male were more likely to hit targets than the females.
“Generally speaking, men don’t like diets”
Managing Director of Weight Win said, “Generally speaking, men don’t like diets; they don’t like calorie counting, they don’t like public weigh-ins. I think what they like about our scheme, apart from the money, is the sense of challenge and competition, and the simplicity of the programme. They don’t want advice, and hand-holding, they just want a clear target and to be left to get on with it.”
Instead of attempting a diet set to dwindle on impoverish we’d suggest you tone up on your stag party instead. There are loads of active options and it’ll be immeasurably more fun if you’ve got the lads alongside you - stag ideas here include paintballing, hovercrafting, coasteering, hotdogging and knee boarding. Best of luck to you gents.
