Stag do guide to Manchester
If you’re in the position of having to organise a stag weekend for yourself or your best friend, then the first thing you need to consider is where to go. While there are numerous great destinations abroad there are also some great opportunities in the UK too. One of the best, in fact, is Manchester, which has just about everything for a great stag weekend.
There are plenty of hotels in and around Manchester to suit your needs, from budget accommodation to luxury boutique hotels. If you’re heading into Manchester then a visit to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, Manchester United’s Old Trafford home, is a popular choice. You can get a real behind-the-scenes view of one of the most celebrated stadiums in the country and see things just the way some of the United greats have.
A stadium tour of Old Trafford will allow you to see the pitch at its finest from the magnificent North Stand or see exactly how things happen in the dressing rooms. The tours generally last for about 70 minutes and are available seven days a week (apart from match days, of course).
For the best of evening entertainment, there are a number of great venues to choose from. The Hard Rock Cafe in Exchange Square is always a popular favourite. Having been established for over ten years now, the cafe combines great music – from Elvis to the Beatles and from Oasis to the Arctic Monkeys – with great food and generous drinks.
Equally popular is the unique venue called Taps. Situated conveniently in the heart of the city, Taps is a pub like no other as you can actually serve yourself. Every table is fitted with its own computerized beer pump, making it a unique drinking experience for all. They also do great meals and snacks.
For something a little more upmarket, Epernay Champagne Bar is the place to go. Opened in 2009, the design is impressive and the range of champagne, wine and cocktails is not bad either. The amount of champagne varieties on offer is in the hundreds, from cheap and cheerful to the finest on the planet.
Or maybe you plan on going to Manchester for its famous music scene. If so, there’s plenty on offer. The Bridgewater Hall hosts more than 250 concerts a year, from jazz to pop and from classical to rock. For the bigger bands, the M.E.N is Manchester’s version of the O2 Arena and hosts performers such as U2, Madonna and the Rolling Stones.
No stag weekend is complete without a visit to a lap dancing club. Manchester’s lap dancing clubs offer a selection of private VIP lounges and offers great discounts for pre-booked parties.
If you’re looking for things to do during the day, then go karting is always a good option. Fortunately, Manchester has one of the best karting venues in the country which is open all year round.
Another popular daytime activity for stag weekends is paintballing. Manchester has one of the finest paintball sites in the North West. All the necessary equipment is provided and you can do a half or full day of paintballing that includes special stag paintball packages that can be tailored to suit your needs.
Taking a stroll around the city you will come across some of the buildings that characterise the city. The widespread use of red brick throughout the city betrays the city’s past as a major player in the cotton trade of the 1800s, with a large number of former cotton mills either untouched or renovated into trendy apartment buildings and office space. For those planning a walking tour of the city, highlights include the CIS Tower and the Beetham Tower, the two tallest buildings to be found in the city.
If the famously wet Manchester weather holds out, a trip to the award-winning Heaton Park has 610 acres of parkland to enjoy, or perhaps take some time in Albert Square admiring the monuments of Prince Albert and William Ewart Gladstone. Alternatively statues of Queen Victoria or James Watt are proudly displayed in Piccadilly Gardens.
If you’re heading to Manchester for a stag do, booking your accommodation should be done as early as possible to get the best deal and ensure you have everything in place for a great time in Manchester.
