Stag do guide to Manchester

If you’re in the position of having to organise a stag weekend for yourself or your best friend, then the first thing you need to consider is where to go. While there are numerous great destinations abroad there are also some great opportunities in the UK too. One of the best, in fact, is Manchester, which has just about everything for a great stag weekend.

There are plenty of hotels in and around Manchester to suit your needs, from budget accommodation to luxury boutique hotels. If you’re heading into Manchester then a visit to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, Manchester United’s Old Trafford home, is a popular choice. You can get a real behind-the-scenes view of one of the most celebrated stadiums in the country and see things just the way some of the United greats have.

A stadium tour of Old Trafford will allow you to see the pitch at its finest from the magnificent North Stand or see exactly how things happen in the dressing rooms. The tours generally last for about 70 minutes and are available seven days a week (apart from match days, of course).

For the best of evening entertainment, there are a number of great venues to choose from. The Hard Rock Cafe in Exchange Square is always a popular favourite. Having been established for over ten years now, the cafe combines great music – from Elvis to the Beatles and from Oasis to the Arctic Monkeys – with great food and generous drinks.

Equally popular is the unique venue called Taps. Situated conveniently in the heart of the city, Taps is a pub like no other as you can actually serve yourself. Every table is fitted with its own computerized beer pump, making it a unique drinking experience for all. They also do great meals and snacks.

For something a little more upmarket, Epernay Champagne Bar is the place to go. Opened in 2009, the design is impressive and the range of champagne, wine and cocktails is not bad either. The amount of champagne varieties on offer is in the hundreds, from cheap and cheerful to the finest on the planet.

Or maybe you plan on going to Manchester for its famous music scene. If so, there’s plenty on offer. The Bridgewater Hall hosts more than 250 concerts a year, from jazz to pop and from classical to rock. For the bigger bands, the M.E.N is Manchester’s version of the O2 Arena and hosts performers such as U2, Madonna and the Rolling Stones.

No stag weekend is complete without a visit to a lap dancing club. Manchester’s lap dancing clubs offer a selection of private VIP lounges and offers great discounts for pre-booked parties.

If you’re looking for things to do during the day, then go karting is always a good option. Fortunately, Manchester has one of the best karting venues in the country which is open all year round.

Another popular daytime activity for stag weekends is paintballing. Manchester has one of the finest paintball sites in the North West. All the necessary equipment is provided and you can do a half or full day of paintballing that includes special stag paintball packages that can be tailored to suit your needs.

Taking a stroll around the city you will come across some of the buildings that characterise the city. The widespread use of red brick throughout the city betrays the city’s past as a major player in the cotton trade of the 1800s, with a large number of former cotton mills either untouched or renovated into trendy apartment buildings and office space. For those planning a walking tour of the city, highlights include the CIS Tower and the Beetham Tower, the two tallest buildings to be found in the city.

If the famously wet Manchester weather holds out, a trip to the award-winning Heaton Park has 610 acres of parkland to enjoy, or perhaps take some time in Albert Square admiring the monuments of Prince Albert and William Ewart Gladstone. Alternatively statues of Queen Victoria or James Watt are proudly displayed in Piccadilly Gardens.

If you’re heading to Manchester for a stag do, booking your accommodation should be done as early as possible to get the best deal and ensure you have everything in place for a great time in Manchester.

Alec Baldwin to have a quiet stag do

Alec Baldwin has been told to lay off the alcohol and keep his stag party tame by his wife-to-be Hilaria Thomas. Alec Balwin’s fiancée, a yoga instructor, 28, announced that she won’t be having a pre-wedding celebration and hoped that Baldwin wouldn’t too and if he was to have one, he was to keep it a healthy affair. Baldwin is likely to comply with Hilaria Thomas’ orders as he has recently been working hard to lose weight, losing 30lbs after he discovered he was pre-diabetic.

It’s believed that the wedding will also be a low-key affair after the bride-to-be announced recently that as she doesn’t like drama and that she wanted a wedding that was really simple.

If you’ve been summoned to be a good boy and have a quiet stag do, then take a look at StagWeb’s relaxing stag weekend activities. You don’t always have to take part in thrill seeking stag weekend activities and drink to the early hours to have a good time. Maybe a session of male pampering, a day at the races or maybe an afternoon of deep sea fishing will take your fancy.

Chelsea frustrate Barcelona to reach the Champions League Final

Chelsea have managed to reach the final of the 2012 Champions League after a dramatic game in the second leg of the semi final at the Nou Camp against Barcelona.

Chelsea were already in for a hard night having to play in the backyard of the current European Champions, but things took a turn for the worst within a crazy 9 minutes where Chelsea found themselves 2-0 down and down to 10 men. At that moment it looked like Chelsea had no way of coming back. But just before half time, a through ball by Lampard to Ramires left him with the chance to bring the tie back to life, and the Brazilian took advantage and chipped the stranded keeper.

After a bombardment of a further 55 minutes Chelsea just had to refrain Barcelona from scoring and due to away goals Chelsea would reach their second Champions League Final in 4 years. Barcelona continued to press and as the final whistle was getting nearer Barcelona would hit post and bar. But after a penalty box scramble, the ball was hoofed clear and found a completely free Fernando Torres who delightfully controlled the ball in one touch and then ran towards the Spanish keeper before rounding him and placing the ball into an empty net.

With a pause of breath and a feeling of ‘has this actually happened’ Chelsea had found themselves in the final of the 2012 Champions League Final.

If you watched the game with the lads last night, there’s no doubt all of you can say you were together when this unique game had occurred. If you and the boys fancy going to live games yourself then there’s no better occasion than a stag do. StagWeb can arrange football spectating tickets and packages for you at top football clubs across the UK and Europe. For more information go to StagWeb.co.uk or phone 0845 130 5225.

Only 100 days until the Olympics

The count down until the start of the 2012 London Olympics is drawing ever closer as we are only 100 days away. Within this time frame there’s still a lot that needs to be done. Testing events still need to take place on the new venues like the Gymnastics arena, Synchronised Swimming at the Aquatics centre, Hockey at the Riverbank Arena and Men’s Football at the City of Manchester Stadium plus much more. According to the BBC, a further 200,000 temporary seats and 10,000 portable toilets still need to be installed. The venue for beach volleyball is to be located at the Horse Guards Parade and this is yet to be transformed.

The Olympic Torch Relay also needs to take place and this starts in May and lasts for 70 days. Around 8,000 people will take part in carrying the torch through towns and cities across the UK. The route has been planned so it will come within ten miles of 95% of everyone who lives in the UK.

If you haven’t managed to get a ticket for any of the games events then do not stress, there is still plenty of football tickets and Paralympic tickets available, as well as the free events like the Marathon and the walk race. So start your planning now if you don’t want to miss out on Britain’s greatest spectacle for many years. This is perfect if you want your day or weekend away with the boys to coincide with the Nation’s great spectacle. If you’re already on a stag do, this would top off a great weekend away.

Liverpool stag party guide

Liverpool is one of Britain’s most distinctive cities, a place marked by its unique accent, lively nightlife, humour and vibrant cultural and sporting scenes. A historic port which looks across the Irish Sea and Atlantic for much of its inspiration, Liverpool is a city full of character, as well as plenty of characters.

The home to two of the world’s most famous football clubs, as well as perhaps the most famous rock band of all time, the city is a great venue for any stag night. Whether you are interested in a night on the ale in an Irish bar or something a little more refined, it can be found on the banks of the River Mersey.

Liverpool FC are one of the most famous clubs in world football and their Anfield stadium, with its famous Shankly Gates, remains one of football’s most iconic stadia. A tour of the famous ground is available at various times of year – see more about stadium tours here.

Visitors should not forget about Everton FC, though. The Toffees, as they are nicknamed, play at the famous Goodison Park ground, just across Stanley Park from the home of their red-clad rivals. Although less successful than Liverpool, the blue side of this footballing city still has a heritage and devotion that is the envy of other clubs across the world. Some fixtures will be trickier than others to get tickets for, though and it is worthwhile planning ahead and not taking attendance for granted.

Of course, no visit to Liverpool would really be complete without taking in something related to the Beatles. Heading to Albert Dock to the Beatles Story is perhaps the easiest and quickest way to get a fix of the Fab Four before heading on to other things.

With some great memorabilia on show, as well as interesting and interactive displays which trace the stories of all four members of Liverpool’s most famous group, a visit should really get the juices flowing to see what the rest of the city can offer.

The bars and pubs are also great places to enjoy a few pints. Liverpool has a long-running connection with Ireland which is clearly visible in the nightlife of the city. There are plenty of music bars where good traditional and not-so traditional Irish music can be heard, such as O’Neill’s on Hanover Street or Flanagan’s Apple on Mathew Street, where.

For someone who is looking for something perhaps a little less folksy, the city’s nightclubs offer some treats. Liverpool is, the home of Cream, one of the UK’s most famous dance venues. Located in Wolstenholme Square, the club is easily accessible from city centre Liverpool hotels.

For a traditional stag do activity, Liverpool also has some good lap dancing clubs. Providing glamorous girls and luxurious hospitality and it is worthwhile enquiring to see what packages are available for groups.

Paintballing has become increasingly popular as a stag activity in recent years with some of the best sites available in Liverpool. Both outdoor and indoor games on offer, as well as urban environments to battle in.

With Aintree racecourse also just a short distance away, a day at the races is another good option for any stag do. A number of different events run throughout the year at the racecourse, enquire to find out prices.

One thing that a stag do should always be is a laugh and there are some great comedy clubs in the city to see some top acts. Scousers have a reputation for having a lively sense of humour and it is often entertaining simply to listen to conversations in pubs.

However, those who are looking for a more professional brand of comedy should look our various comedy clubs, with some hospitality packages including food and drink also available, just enquire for more information.

Liverpool is one of Britain’s great cities for a weekend break away. As a venue for a man to bid farewell to single life with his buddies, there are few better places to go than this town of celebrations and warm hospitality.
