a little more about Bratislava
Gloriously situated on the Danube, which historically marked the outer limit of the Roman Empire, Bratislava really is a beautiful city perhaps one of the cosiest capitals in Europe. It’s ideal for a European break and perfect for an upmarket, easy going stag weekend. Slovakia came about as a new European country following the “Velvet Revolution” when the formerly communist Czechoslovakia split, in 1993, to form both the Czech Republic and Slovakia . The Czech Republic took much of the national infrastructure and magical Bratislava , leaving Slovakia (also bordering Austria and Hungary ), with Bratislava as its capital, to develop at a slower pace and with arguably less commercial potential.
However in the recent past and especially since joining the EU in 2004 Slovakia has blossomed into one of Europe ’s unsung success stories, some have referred to it, with its natural beauty, as a kind of “European New Zealand”. And of all the Slovakian cities the main beneficiary has been Bratislava , now, producing over 25% of the country’s GDP. Bratislava lies in the west of the country, easily accessible by way of Bratislava itself or the nearby Vienna (60km) – these pair are the two closest capitals in the world. As far as you lads go it’s a stag weekend smasher, bars, pubs and cafes line the city’s squares and cobbled streets giving you the feeling that you’re in one of the Europe ’s best kept secrets. Great choice gents!
