If you’ve got a bit of cider action in mind for the stag then Bristol’s the giant among West Country cities. Even if you’re not too bothered on location Bristol’s well worth the trip, it’s really accessible, hugely accommodating, really hospitable and definitely one of the UK’s most activity rich destinations. There are well over 50 to choose from within striking distance and you can nearly double that if you transfer a little further out. The evenings are a treat; there are loads of fun, busy, bustly, group pleasing venues for you and the boys to celebrate in. You’ll find plenty enough pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants; you’ll also be pleased to find the casinos and even the lap dancing. Hotels are great and there’s nothing you need to worry about missing out on, all in all one top destination.
Like much of the UK, Bristol isn’t especially seasonal it’s busy all the time. Spring, Summer and Autumn give you a little extra in the way of possible boat trips on the River Avon and watersports options, you might also catch Gloucester play the odd cricket match but that aside everything’s pretty much conveniently available year round. Bristol’s hosts a multitude of festivals but the big ones when the city’s really busy are the Harbour Festival (July), the International Balloon Fiesta (August) and the Half Marathon (September). However you might be more interested in Grillstock in May or the Cider Festival in June.
Being a major city getting to Bristol is simple, whether you’re flying in (Bristol Airport), driving (M4 or M5 motorways) or catching the train (Bristol Temple Meads is central but Bristol Parkway’s also an out of town possibility). The city’s very well located so it works well as a location if you’ve got guys travelling from all over.
It’s a big and diverse city but not too big to be intimidating, so for an organiser responsible for a group of fun seeking stags it remains manageable, it’s walkable that said for speed at getting between the neighbourhoods and preferred venues taxis can be a good idea. Apart from the central business district and old city where many of the best hotels are located there are a few additional areas to consider adding in to your nights out, Harbourside and buzzing Welsh Back, the Park Street area, gentrified and classy Clifton (where you boys are bound to visit the ever popular Whiteladies Road). To get the best out of your visit it’s worth choosing the right accommodation in advance and making clear plans for the evenings, that way you get the best of Bristol into a lively stag weekend itinerary. Guess what - being just a few miles down the road we’re experts at helping you with that.
There are dozens and too many to list here - hit the activities page for more detailed info, but in short you’ve got a lot of choice. You can mix up soft with active like clay shooting and mud buggies followed by a bit of cider or wine tasting, or perhaps you’d like something like a morning of golf followed by something a little more unusual like the often hilarious Somerset Challenge. You can even ice kart or hire a stadium and if the budget allows it how about testing out an extreme water jet pack! But if you’re not quite sure or need to work the budget just call in, we’ll be happy to help with recommendations.
For the fourth most popular visitor destination in England and a major business centre, Bristol’s surprisingly great value. That said to get the best value it’s important to get it right, stay in the right places, go to the right venues and do the right activities but you should be able to enjoy a pretty cost effective trip. As a good steer we’ve got one night packages starting from £79 and loaded 2 night packages from £150 per head but for most groups we build to suit. For a really decent 2 night, high content stag do in Bristol look at the £150-£200 mark and you won’t be far of course.
If you liked the sound of that, then see our Bristol packages for more ideas & itineraries!
