information for stag events in Cambridge
Very much a university town it was put on the map in the late 13th century by fleeing Oxford scholars. They fled because their nerd rich scholastic skills were rubbing the locals up the wrong way and one of the medieval swots was given a sound thrashing with the promise of more to follow. So more comfortable with libraries than lances they upped sticks and established a new seat of learning in 1271 with Cambridge's first college.
However this new dawn didn't stop hostilities repeating, a local rebellion in 1381 saw the peasants come after the scholars once again, the dons were eventually saved by the intercession of the Bishop of Norwich. The town retained it's university dominance for years, which peaked and dipped in its successes. With the advent of the steam engine the outlook for Cambridge started to change as it liberated itself and the university lost its upperhand. Cambridge these days is an extremely popular and prosperous city.
