Corfe Castle - Seriously? A castle on a stag? Yes. If you’re looking for a way to ease sore heads the morning after the night before and prior to your afternoon activity then dragging the lads up here really is the way to do it. Whether you’re a history buff or not it really is pretty damn impressive.
Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) Bournemouth’s largest live venue. It hosts everything from burlesque evenings to children’s concerts. Recent and forthcoming acts include; Jake Bugg, Russell Brand, Jummy Carr, Milton Jones, Micky Flanagan, The Rocky Horror Show, KT Tunstall.
The BIC is run in conjunction with The Pavillion, the town’s largest theatre.
The Lighthouse Billed as the largest arts centre outside of London this modern facility offers everything from comedy, new circus, theatre, cinema, visual arts, events and workshops.
Bournemouth Promenade Another potential head clearing, sight restoring, hangover curing landscape. Drag the lads out of their bunks in a Regimental Sergeant Major fashion and push them on to the prom for the restorative powers of the sea air. Then chill on the beach while waiting for your heads to stop hurting and the afternoon’s challenge.
Pavilion Dance As well as year a year round dance programme encompassing the best of world dance there are regular hip-hop battles and street dance. For the more refined the 200 seat state of the art facility and gallery also offers opera, art exhibitions and arthouse films.
Arts by the Sea Festival For the art loving chap about town the Bournemouth arts festival is gaining nationwide renown for showcasing some of the brightest stars of the arts as well as shining a spotlight on emerging local talent and the best Dorset has to offer.
Bournemouth Air Festival (last week of August) Mingle with the Top Guns during Bournemouth’s air festival. As well as the high flyers like the Red Arrows the festival also has a lot to see on the ground with DJ’s and bands which previously have included the likes of The Feeling, Kodaline, Garbiella Cilme, Johnny Hates Jazz and er… Blue (!?!).
Unlike some of our other destinations Bournemouth perhaps isn’t over flowing with sporting heritage. While it has produced a few sporting heroes it’s home grown teams haven’t quite hit the big time. Probably the best know of these is AFC Bournemouth. If you prefer your football of the non premier league then it’s a fair bet that the Cherries won’t be challenging the Gooners or Spurs for Champions League spots anytime soon (sorry Bournemouth). But if you do want to see some of the action you can check out their fixtures list.
