Latvia is snuggled in the middle of the Baltics between Lithuania and Estonia, it's probably the region’s most vibrant and modern capital. With a population close to 750,000 it's also the biggest and most commercially prominent. Historically significant, the city is a UNESCO world heritage site. The country's history is long and varied and provides some fascinating footnotes as far back as the thirteenth century, more recent times have seen the country's independence from the Soviet Union (17.09.1991) and Latvia joining NATO and the EU in 2004.
Variations obviously occur with venue types and brands suffice to say on the whole it’s great value and cheaper than at home. Both pintprice.com and ask.com put the average price of beer at around £2.30 per pint.
In a nutshell it’s very pleasant in summer (May to September), the temperature drops slightly for Spring & Autumn and it gets cold in January and February when snow is common.
