The top 10 bars in Europe

From energetic sports bars to traditional beer-drenched pub dungeons, Europe’s well known for it’s watering holes and provides countless numbers of prime spots for a stag weekend. Mingle with males in Budapest locals or sip signature cocktails with Manchester socialites – stick to this top 10 list and you’ll be on to a winner.

1. The A38, Budapest

Moored in the Buda side of Budapest this ship/ bar is easily found next to the Petofi Bridge. Once a Ukranian stone hauler ship (back in 1968) this was decommissioned and recycled into a huge floating bar which also has live music most days of the year. An incredible place to visit with the boys, sure to make your Budapest stag that much better.

2. Hoppe, Amsterdam

There may not be a lot of room to sit down in this Dutch bar but trust us when we say there wont be much time for sitting, the Hoppe bar in Amsterdam is most famous for it’s spontaneous last-minute parties which go on through most of the night. Established way back in 1670 this bar is located right in the centre of the shopping and nightlife district and has a terrific range of beers on offer and a fantastic atmosphere.

3. Sage Restaurant, Berlin

What was once a huge brick factory is now a veritable feast of stag fun and a playground for all of Berlin’s partygoers. It’s bang in the middle of the Kreuzberg district and the cool interiors mixed with huge communal tables and a chilled-out vibe make it a must for all Berlin-headed groups. During the daytime you can try delicious German cuisine and in the evening it turns into a laid-back bar, including an outside ‘beach’ with sand and deckchairs. Check out our Berlin page here.

4. Slovak Pub, Bratislava

Don’t be fooled by the fact that this is Bratislava’s number one English-advertised hangout- it still has all the traditional Slovakian charm and a history-rich atmosphere. The rooms have different themes, ideal if you’re looking to mix it up but don’t want to leave the building, and perhaps most importantly the food and drink is incredible value. Popular with locals and travellers alike, the food’s farmed locally, one of the rooms is a wooden cabin and it’s right in the middle of the best drinking street in Bratislava. Winning.

5. Cloud 23, Manchester

Located at the highest point in Manchester Cloud 23 is a terrific place to catch up with the boys while making the most of stunning panoramic views. Signature cocktails and fine champagne go alongside the cool vibes and stylish surroundings, making this a top place to start your evening. Bear in mind that there’s a smart dress code at all times and strictly no sports wear or headgear. Book your Manchester stag today.

6. Lavka Bar and Club, Prague

This fantastic Prague bar is full of life all year round, with a buzzing indoor atmosphere through the winter months and wild outdoor parties during summer. With various terraces, bars and dance floors, this is the ultimate hub of life for Prague stag parties, and if you’re looking to explore other bars you should leave this one until last as you’ll end up staying here until the early hours. Check out our Prague nightlife page for more ideas.

7.  Cafe Cuba, Riga

Many of the best cities have at least one Cuban-themed bar and Riga is no exception, what makes this bar so great though is the terrific value, the chilled atmosphere and the chance to shoot some pool with mates in the downstairs game room. With Tuesday’s being a popular dance night and a number of nibbles to go with your pint the red walls of the low-lit Cafe Cuba are a prime spot to start your evening off. Check out our Riga page.

8. Bar Necci, Rome

It’s not easy to find but it’s well worth trawling around the streets of Rome’s super cool Pigneto District to find- Bar Necci is a friendly bar with exceptional food and a great mix of people from all walks of life. The current owners, who include English chef Ben Hirst, have renovated the place as a funky early-70’s idiom and through the day the mood changes, from a local breakfast stop to a serious restaurant and on to a chilled bar. During apertivo time 10 Euros will buy you a drink and a plate of gourmet snacks and on Sundays there’s often special events including a second-hand vinyl market accompanied by fish and chips. It also officially has the best cheesecake in town- it’s well worth a visit for that alone. See our Rome page.

9. Szimpla Kert pub, Budapest

Back to Budapest for this top choice – the city where you’ll find many romkocsma (ruin pubs) like this (but not as good as this one in our opinion). If it’s a relaxing, quiet evening you’re looking for then this isn’t going to be your cup of tea, lively and loud this pub can accommodate hundreds of people who party late into the night. There’s a huge open-air garden and an extensive list of drinks- essentially it’s a stag winner.

10. Puro Skylounge, Berlin

As a top destination for night life it’s only natural that Berlin comes up twice in the top 10- a terrific mix of gritty on-ground bars makes the Puro Skylounge something totally different and quite literally raises the bar. It’s right at the top of the Europa Center and it does terrific martini’s- ideal if you’re looking for a swathe Bond-esque way to set the pace for a big stag night. Bear in mind that there’s a smart dress code.

Although these are officially our top 10 don’t let that stop you visiting one of our other fantastic stag destinations- they’re all hand picked for their incredible nightlife scene (as well as the activities on offer and the over-all stag friendly nature of the place).
