📍 6 York Place, Brighton, BN1 4GU
Unlike the dodo, this place hasn’t become extinct. Not only do they know what it takes to survive in the competitive industry that is owning a pizzeria, they know what it takes to thrive and rise to the tippy top. Back for a second consecutive year, Dodo Pizza is still hitting the high standards they were last year, so they deserve their place again. Expect to see them again next year too because we can’t see them dying out anytime soon.
Best slice 🍕 Stranger Things – Ham, extra mozzarella, marinara sauce and pineapple.
The White Rabbit
📍 21 Friars Entry, Oxford, OX1 2BY
These guys really pulled the rabbit out the hat with this place though there is no sorcery at work here, just hard graft, a great range of beers and some sumptuous pizzas – that’s the real hat-trick. Originally, we weren’t going to put them in our list because we didn’t want people finding out about them, so we could have them all to ourselves, but there’s a lot of buzz about them already and we think the cat is well and truly out the bag. Sharing is caring!
Best slice 🍕 The Mad Hatter Calzone – This one is mysteriously left to their chefs.
📍 Where isn’t it?!
With branches springing up all across London, the Pizza Pilgrims are seemingly ditching their nomadic lifestyle and setting up camp firmly in the English capital. After scouring Italy at a slow-cooked speed of 19mph, the brains behind the bites returned following a six-week journey getting inspiration from the source of our favourite Italian import. It’s no wonder their restaurants are multiplying faster than we can count them because their pizzas are unbelievable.
Best slice 🍕 Aubergine Parmagiana – Roasted aubergine, tomato sauce, baby plum tomatoes and fior di latte mozzarella.
Yard Sale Pizza
📍 Leytonstone | Walthamstow | Finsbury Park | Clapton
As with many a great idea, Yard Sale Pizza was concocted in the proprietor’s very own back garden. After wowing family and friends, they took to the streets of London and opened their very own shop and they haven’t looked back since. Fashionable, off-the-wall and all sorts of cool, it’s a brilliant place to pitch up and hang out. Please note: They won’t be liable for a new t-shirt if you drool all over yours from all that mouth-watering that will occur when you get a whiff of their pizzas.
Best slice 🍕 New Porker – Sicilian sausage, guindilla chillies, garlic, oregano and fresh basil.

The home of ‘genuine pizza’, Zia Lucia’s ferments their dough for two whole days before they are baked in their wood-fired ovens, this allows them to breathe and lets the gluten get to work (gluten-free bases optional). Being the industry experts that they are, they understand that everyone likes different flavours but, unlike many others in the pizza business, this isn’t restricted to the toppings. They have four tasty bases to pick from – veg charcoal, wholemeal, gluten-free, traditional – all of which are fantastic in their own right. Plus they have four resturants across London, we’re in pizza heaven!
Best slice 🍕 Andrea Pirlo – Mozzarella, gorgonzola, apple, truffle and olive sauce.
Lost Boys Pizza
📍 245 Eversholt Street, London, NW1 1BA
Once you sink your fangs into one of Lost Boy’s devilish charcoal creations, you’ll start believing they aren’t from this world as nothing on God’s green earth should taste this good. They rightly pride themselves on their charcoal base, and their love for ’80s tunes, which gives their pizzas a subtle smoky flavour – the charcoal base not the ’80s bass. Also, the owners claim to be vampires which we didn’t quite believe until we noticed they didn’t have any reflections when they walked passed the mirrors nor is there any sight of garlic on the menu.
Best slice 🍕 Fangs for the Memories – Chorizo, peppers, onions, chilli flakes.
📍 6-8 Quayside, Cambridge, CB5 8AB
“When a moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that’s amore!” A pizza in the eye?! What are you talking about, Frank?! Get it in your gob, it’s much nicer…! And if you want to experience true amore, head on down to the Punt Yard in Cambridge for some pizzas which are out of this world. You can even upgrade your pizza to a yard which, as they helpfully put it, is about the height of a five-year-old. Feeling hungry?
Best slice 🍕 The Philly Fishcake – Hot smoked salmon, garlic prawns, capers, anchovy, lemon dressed rocket.
📍 78 Osborne Road, Portsmouth, Southsea, PO5 3LU
When visiting a British seaside resort, most people tend to plump for a disappointing, soggy, old fish and chips, but you can leave that to the seagulls. When you’re in Southsea, head to Circolo Pizzeria for some authentic Italian dining. Yes, this may not be your traditional coastal cuisine, but would you rather one of the UK’s best, handmade, Italian pizzas which are truly spectacular or would you rather stand outside gnawing on a stick of rock in the rain? See you in there.
Best slice 🍕 Piccante Al Pecorino – Tomato Sugo, spicy salami, mozzarella, pancetta, red onions, peppers, jalapenos and pecorino cheese.
📍 24 Baddow Road, Chelmsford, CM2 0DG
This is a pizza experience like no other. This is all you can eat, but with a twist. The twist being Motto Pizza’s food is so darn good you never ever want to stop eating! Here, you’ll be shown to your table where you then hit the green light and the waiters will start bringing slices over to you. You can then turn it off to have a break or signal you’re done. Time to don those trousers with the elasticated waistband!
Best slice 🍕 It’s a roulette!
