SOUTH WEST

Fire and Brew

📍 49 Moorland Road, Bath, BA2 3PJ

We’re back in our stomping ground of Bath and what we don’t know about the local pizza scene isn’t worth knowing. Fire and Brew are back with renewed vigour, hitting our Top 50 yet again because their pizzas are monumental and their craft beers are foaming with flavour. Whilst the toppings are superb, they don’t neglect the base which is masterfully kneaded and consistently fired to perfection. We eagerly look forward to our next visit.

Best slice 🍕 St. Kilda – Bath blue cheese, mushrooms, truffle oil, fresh parsley and mozzarella.

Juno Bar & Kitchen

📍 4 Philip Street, Bath, BA1 1AU

Another returning favourite of ours is Juno Bar & Kitchen. This is one of those haunts that makes you feel ten times cooler just by being there. Maybe it’s the skater vibe, maybe it’s the delicious pizzas, maybe it’s the tasty beers? Maybe it’s a combination of all three? Who knows?! What we do know is it’s one of Bath’s best hangouts and they continue to cultivate a great atmosphere and phenomenal pizza culture.

Best slice 🍕 The Juno BBQ Chicken, drizzled in Juno’s BBQ sauce

Flour & Ash

📍 203B Cheltenham Road, Bristol, BS6 5QX

Set in the heart of Bristol’s bustling independent hub, to survive here you have to be the cream of the crop the sour of the dough. The guys at Flour & Ash set their stall out from day one and have risen like their award-winning bases to become one of the cities premier pizza joints. With their menus changing daily you can go there time and time again and not eat the same creation twice and it’s passion and commitment like that that elevates them above the rest.

Best slice 🍕 Anchovy & Garlic – with mozzarella and Sicilian oregano.

Bertha’s Pizza

📍 The Old Gaol Stables, Cumberland Road, Bristol, BS1 6UX

‘Stick with us for the journey, we’re only just warming up’… If this place is only just warming up, then their competitors are in some serious trouble. The guys at Betha’s could have fooled us into thinking they’ve been baking their mouth-watering creations since time immemorial. In fact, they’ve only been on the scene for a couple of years, but they’ve been dropping some of the finest doughy cuisine since day one. If they think they can improve on their already heady heights, we’ll definitely be returning.

Best slice 🍕 Sausagefest – tomato, house sausage, garlic, red onion, breadcrumbs, Parmigiano.

Knead Pizza

📍 Plymouth Market, 151-156 Cornwall Street, Plymouth, PL1 1PS

Like most, we’re a sucker for a good pun. And for those who think Knead Pizza is a cheesy name (get in!) we’d like to see you top it (OK, we’ll stop now). Whilst you can have a little chuckle at the name, there is nothing funny about their pizzas. These guys mean business when it comes to their craft and they forge something special in their ovens, the likes of which the south coast has never seen. By the slice or the full shebang, whatever you choose, your life is about to change forever.

Best slice 🍕 The Pat Butcher – Pepperoni, salami, parma ham, mozzarella, tomato.

Fat Toni’s Pizzeria

📍 4 Regent Street, Cheltenham, GL50 1HE

Fat Toni’s Pizzeria has a passionate following in the South West because they’ve proven that takeaways don’t have to forgo on quality just because they’re brought to you. Whilst their excellence is undoubted the thing that impresses us the most is their passion for ethically sourced and sustainable food, proving you don’t need to rely on polluting imports to produce showstoppers which they do time and time again.

Best slice 🍕 21st Century Ham and Pineapple – Margherita with cheddar, prosciutto Cotto ham, roasted pineapple.

La Bocca

📍 24 The Strand, Bude, EX23 8QU

Bude, formerly known as Bude Haven, may have lost the second part of its name but it has itself a new sanctuary in the form of La Bocca Pizza Kitchen. With the vast expanse of the Atlantic unfolding on the coastline nearby, La Bocca goes about filling the vast expanses of their customer’s appetites with their fantastic selection of pizzas. With classic Italian creations to their own signature dishes, they have something for everyone to drool over.

Best slice 🍕 La Boca Nera – light black dough with mozzarella, tomato, fresh rocket, prosciutto, cherry mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, ricotta and garlic oil.

The Pizza Café

📍 50 Queen Street, Newton Abbot, TQ12 2EW

“Guess who’s back, back again…” You really are gonna want to tell a friend about The Pizza Café so you can fire on down there sharpish and try one of their delish movie-themed pizzas. They were one of our favourites last year, one of our favourites this year and we may just give them a permanent spot in the Top 50 because we can’t see that changing anytime soon – yes, they’re just that darn good and long may they reign.

Best slice 🍕 Big Trouble in Little China – Plum sauce, Peking duck, spring onions and pineapple.
