5 Questions to Ask a Stag Do Company Before You Book

by

Booking a stag do isn’t just about finding the cheapest package online.

You’re organising a once-in-a-lifetime weekend for your mate. There are deposits involved. Flights. Accommodation. Activities. And a group of lads relying on you to get it right.

This year, StagWeb turn 24.

And after organising stag weekends since 2002, we’ve seen what happens when groups book with companies that look slick online… but don’t have the experience or protection to back it up.

So before you book with any stag do company, ask these five questions.

1. How Long Have They Been Trading?

Experience matters more than most people realise.

Stag weekends aren’t just about booking a hotel and an activity. They involve:

  • Supplier negotiations
  • Group payment systems
  • Last-minute changes
  • Venue issues
  • Weather disruptions
  • Group size changes

A stag do company that’s been trading for 1-3 years simply hasn’t handled the volume of scenarios that a company with 20+ years has.

We’ve been organising stag weekends since 2002. That means:

  • Long-standing relationships with vetted suppliers
  • Strong negotiating power
  • Backup options when something goes wrong
  • Thousands of real-world situations handled

When something unexpected happens (and occasionally it does), experience is what fixes it. If a company launched recently, ask yourself: how many problems have they actually solved?

2. Are They Financially Bonded?

Discussing this with your mates doesn’t exactly scream “stag do”… but it’s a non-negotiable.

If you’re paying deposits months in advance, your money should be protected.

Ask the company directly:

“Are you financially bonded, and who are you bonded with?”

StagWeb are ABTOT bonded, which means your money is protected under a government-approved bonding scheme.

If a company isn’t bonded and something happens to them financially, your group’s deposits could be at risk.

It’s not dramatic. It’s practical.

When you and your mates are spending hundreds of pounds each, financial protection isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s essential.

3. Are Their Suppliers Properly Vetted?

Anyone can list a house or activity and call it “stag-friendly.”

But are they:

  • Licensed?
  • Insured?
  • Approved for large groups?
  • Actually aware you’re a stag party?

We work with long-term suppliers we know and trust – relationships built over decades.

That dramatically reduces the risk of:

  • Last-minute cancellations
  • “We don’t allow stag groups” surprises
  • Hidden clauses

Experience builds leverage. Leverage builds reliability.

4. Do They Offer Secure Individual Payments?

If the organiser has to collect thousands of pounds from 10–15 different mates and transfer it in one go… that’s a red flag.

Group money gets messy fast. Individual payment systems reduce:

  • Awkward chasing
  • Payment disputes
  • Risk for the organiser
  • Last-minute dropouts affecting others

We built our system around secure individual payments years ago because we saw how stressful group finance can become.

If a company doesn’t offer this, ask why. The organiser shouldn’t be acting as a bank.

5. What Happens If Something Goes Wrong?

Most people don’t ask this question until they need the answer.

What if:

  • Your activity provider cancels?
  • Your accommodation double-books?
  • A venue shuts unexpectedly?
  • Your group size changes last minute?

Do they have a real support team? Or is it just one person running a brand from a laptop?

After 24 years, we’ve handled everything from snowstorms to supplier insolvencies. Experience doesn’t just look good on a homepage – it shows up when you need it most.

When you’re mid-weekend and something needs sorting, you want a company that has done this thousands of times before.

Final Thought: Cheap Isn’t Always Safer

We understand the temptation to save £15–£20 per person.

But when you’re organising a weekend that involves thousands of pounds, flights, accommodation and your mate’s once-in-a-lifetime send-off, ask yourself:

Is this stag do company built to deliver — or just built to sell?

At 24 years old, StagWeb isn’t the new kid on the block.

We’re the company that’s seen it all, solved it all, and protected thousands of groups in the process.

If you’d like to plan your stag with an experienced, ABTOT-bonded team, send us a free enquiry, and we’ll build your weekend properly.

Bonus Question: Once We’ve Booked, How Do You Actually Manage The Weekend?

Are you:

  • Searching through old emails for confirmation numbers?
  • Screenshooting PDFs?
  • Pinning WhatsApp messages?
  • Forwarding booking details repeatedly?

Or do you have everything in one place?

We built our own stag itinerary app so every group has access to their full weekend plan in one simple, easy-to-use system.

That means:

  • Live itinerary schedule
  • Activity times and locations
  • Accommodation details
  • Maps and directions
  • Contact numbers
  • Booking confirmations
  • Real-time updates

No digging through inboxes. No confusion about meeting points. No “who’s got the booking ref?” moments.

You also get your own dedicated Event Manager, available from the moment you book until your event has been and gone.
