Is Cheltenham Week in Benidorm Good For a Stag Do?

•

by

For Simon, StagWeb’s dedicated Benidorm Specialist, there is only one proper way to watch the Cheltenham Races.

Lounged back with a cold one in hand, sun blazing above, and a massive screen throwing shade over a buzzing crowd of racegoers – that’s what Cheltenham Festival is really about.

Only, this time, Simon isn’t in Cheltenham.

In fact, it’s the second year in a row he and his mates jet off to Benidorm to catch the action.

Simon says there’s a method to his madness.

We’ve invited him to tell us more…

Simon Recalls His Time at the ā€œBenidormā€ Races…

ā€œThis was my second time flying to Benidorm to soak up the Cheltenham festival atmosphere.

After visiting Cheltenham in 2023, I couldn’t believe the prices I was expected to pay just to get through the front gate.

So, I and a group of friends from StagWeb decided to give Benidorm a go in 2024.

It didn’t disappoint.

So much so, that when the races came around this year, I didn’t think twice before booking my flights.ā€

What Were Your Highlights?

ā€œFor me, it’s the atmosphere. Pair that with cheap drinks and cracking weather, and it’s an absolute winner.

Even if you’re not massively into the racing, just being surrounded by all that banter and bouncing energy is enough to make you want to come back year after year.

Everyone’s out in Benidorm for a good time, but it’s taken to the next level during Cheltenham week.ā€

Is Benidorm Better Than Cheltenham for Watching the Races?

ā€œBenidorm is well-equipped to host the race screenings and racegoers alike.

If you get down to the bar early enough, like we did, you can get some great tables in front of the plasma.

Not to mention, Spain is one hour ahead of the UK, so we got an extra hour on the booze that day!

I’d say if you’ve been to the races in Cheltenham a couple of times and fancy mixing it up, but don’t just want to settle for your local pub, Benidorm is the next best thing!ā€

Is Benidorm Cheaper Than Cheltenham for Watching the Races?

ā€œI’d say so – otherwise people wouldn’t bother flying out there!

When I looked at flights, I found decent fares from pretty much every UK airport, so I didn’t even need to trek far and just hopped on a plane from Bristol.

Food and drinks are about as cheap as they get, and with everything being walkable, you’re not rinsing your budget on taxis.

With food and drinks being as cheap as they can get and with the resort being walkable, I was able to get away with spending less than what I would have spent, had I gone to the races in Cheltenham.ā€

Where to Watch the Cheltenham Races in Benidorm?

ā€œMany bars in Benidorm have big screens with betting facilities where you can enjoy the Cheltenham Races live.

My top Benidorm Bars for Cheltenham Festival viewing are:

šŸ†The Winning Post – A well-known spot for racing fans
šŸ“ C. Gerona, 18, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

šŸ„‡Marina Hotel Sports Bar – Large screens with a fantastic atmosphere
šŸ“Av. de Cuenca, 6, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

🄈 The 12th Man – Great outdoor seating, perfect for large groups
šŸ“ Avenida Juan Fuster Zaragoza, Benidorm, Spain

šŸ„‰Jumping Jacks – Big screens and live music to keep the good times rolling
šŸ“C. Gerona, 17, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

I spent most of my time at The Winning Post but also checked out the Marina Hotel’s Sports Bar a couple of times as I was actually staying there.ā€

Final Thoughts?

ā€œBenidorm’s a buzz that every self-respecting Cheltenham Festival fan should experience at least once.

I’d highly recommend it to any group of mates who want to enjoy the sport they love… somewhere a little different.”

Will You Go Again Next Year?

ā€œI’m seriously considering it!

Benidorm’s one of those places you just don’t get bored of.

Whether you’re out here for Cheltenham or planning a full-blown lads’ weekend, the place has got it all.”
