Graze – Bath
A pub that brews its own beer on site, serves superb food and is owned by one of the UK’s best breweries? Yes, sometimes life is this good. As local boys, we were already big fans of Bath Ales, and then they started opening pubs of this quality and all our Christmases (and many future Friday nights) seemed to arrive at once. Funky, cool, tasty and with life-size cows outside, naturally.
Small Bar – Bristol
As we’ve often said, size really isn’t everything. In the case of the Small Bar, it’s just a moniker because on the inside this great pub delivers big flavours – a great selection of beers from around the world with thirty-one taps to choose from on any given day. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and (as long as they’re not rammed with thirsty punters) happy to give you insight on your next tipple.
The Beer Cellar – Exeter
No two trips to the Beer Cellar (cellar/seller, see what they did there?) are the same with an ever-changing selection of UK and international beers. Aficionados and beer preachers, the friendly team have excellent beer knowledge and a real passion for their chosen subject. But this isn’t Mastermind so instead of a silly glass statue you get to walk out with your chosen beverages to take home.
The Skinner’s Brewery Tap House – Truro
“A proper Cornish pub with a world-class beer collection” really does sum up one of our favourite pubs on the planet! Not only is it a truly brilliant place to travel to and pass on an enjoyable sunny afternoon, but it’s also home to a great selection of beers. You can literally watch the world go by, whether that’s figuratively in brewed form or literally out in the sunshine.
Beer & Bird – St Ives
Bring a spare shirt. Seriously, there are two hazards here, one dripping amazing sauces from spectacular food down your Ben Sherman or, two, overindulging in both gourmet fried chicken and real ales and finding your shirt has weirdly shrunk and the buttons straining so much someone could lose an eye any second. A family run business at heart with a brilliant soul.
