If you’ve shortlisted Prague and Budapest for the groom’s big send-off in 2026, but can’t decide which one takes the win, we’re here to help.
Two cities. One stag do. Many decisions…
With over 23 years of experience organising stag dos, StagWeb’s experts are fully equipped to advise you on which city is better for your stag do.
Is Prague or Budapest Better for a Stag Do?
Both cities offer stag-approved experiences for all budgets, tastes, and levels of madness.
And while “Just try both” is a very logical answer, we know it won’t work unless you know you’ll be attending another stag do in Eastern Europe at some point in the future.
So, if you haven’t been to Prague for a stag do yet, go to Prague.
And if you have (we’re sure you had a memorable time!), try Budapest!
Why?
You can visit Budapest for any occasion (stag do, getaway, birthday, anniversary, reunion) and still have a fantastic time, but Prague is made for stag dos.
In fact, the city was so popular with stag groups in 2024, it almost tried to ban them…(Don’t worry, they didn’t!)

Which City Has Better Nightlife?
Both cities bring the chaos, but you can get away with more in Prague than in Budapest.
Prague wins for wild, walkable nightlife with fewer rules. Budapest has trendy ruin bars and boat parties, but it’s more spread out and slightly more reserved.
Prague Nights:
- VIP Clubs and Bar Crawls
- Party Boat and Ice Bar
Budapest Nights:
Which City Has Better Activities?
Prague is pure stag adrenaline – think whitewater rafting, beer boats, and watching your mate Dave try to parallel park a tank.
Budapest still brings the action but also has stuff the groom’s fiancée might actually approve of, like beer spa parties and thermal baths.
In one word:
- Prague: adrenaline
- Budapest: memorable
Prague activities:
Budapest activities…

Where Does Your Money Go Further?
Both capital cities are cheap compared to UK prices.
Prague is still the pricier of the two when it comes to accommodation and activities, but its booze is less expensive. Check out our guide on how much money to take to a Prague stag do for a better idea of costs
Verdict:
- Prague – cheaper across the board, but more expensive than Budapest
- Budapest – still cheap, but spas and bars are a touch more upmarket
Beer
Price of a pint of domestic beer (500ml):
When in doubt, let the beer prices do the talking:
- Prague – 45 CZK = 1.6 GBP (Travel Prague)
- Budapest – 1,000.00 Ft = 2.09 GBP (Wise)
Accommodation
As with every capital city, accommodation prices depend on how central you are – you’re paying more for convenience than luxury.
Budapest is a bit more stylish, but still affordable, and it has more stag-friendly apartment options, whereas Prague stags tend to stay in hotels and hostels.
Flights
- Prague – cheaper and approx. 2 hours
- Budapest – about the same price, but approx. 2.5 – 3 hours
We recommend checking Skyscanner for up-to-date prices.
What can £200 Get You in Each City?
If you’ve got £200 in the party kitty, you might get more out of Budapest – same vibe, better value, and potentially more activities.
However, once you factor in flights, drinks, and food, there’s a good chance Prague could work out cheaper overall.

Which City’s Energy Matches Your Stag Squad?
If your stag squad has got the energy to take over Prague, they’ve got what it takes to dominate Budapest too. It all boils down to whether you’d prefer carnage or culture.
Go to Prague if…
- You’re up for pure carnage
- You need somewhere to wear your DodgyClobba shirts
Go to Budapest if…
- Your group wants a bit of class with the chaos
- You’ve done Prague already and want a fresh battlefield
The Final Verdict
So… is Prague or Budapest Better?
If you’ve never been, Prague is the ultimate stag playground – wild nights, cheap beer, no supervision.
But if you’ve done Prague or want a classier touch with your chaos, Budapest wins.
